There might be flexibility about where and when the accompaniment takes place.  Consideration should always be based on what is best for both parties – do you prefer to walk and talk, not have eye contact, early morning or late evening etc.  Whatever the preference, if there isn’t any, then equal level seating is an absolute must.  The person offering accompaniment should never be in a position of looking down on the directee.
