All Religious Life Groups and the individuals working within them have a responsibility to safeguard children. A child is anyone under the age of 18.

The Children’s Act 2004, the Equality Act 2010, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018 and Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022 are all important legislative frameworks for child protection in England.

Key principles include the importance of understanding:

     *The child’s welfare is paramount
*The expectations and requirements around duties of care to children

As a trustee, you should ensure that anyone working with children in your RLG have the capabilities to listen to what children say, take their views seriously and work with them and their families (where this is safe) in order to support the child’s needs.

Please look for the RLSS training module entitled ‘Safeguarding Children’ if you would like members of your RLG to have further training with regards to supporting children
